You are invited to the specialist course: Advanced Microscopy – Valorisation and Collaboration with Industry, taking place from September 17–19, 2025 at the Centre for X-ray Tomography at Ghent University, Belgium. This course, supported by the Doctoral Schools and the EXCITE Network, is open to a multidisciplinary audience of early career researchers who are interested in valorising their research on advanced microscopy techniques.
Recent advances in X-ray and electron microscopy have significantly deepened our understanding of materials. While these technologies hold strong potential for industrial application, the path to valorisation is often underdeveloped. This course aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industry, offering practical tools and insights to support technology transfer and collaboration.
Course highlights:
- State-of-the-art Imaging Developments
Learn from leading manufacturers (e.g., TESCAN, Bruker) about the latest innovations in microscopy and explore industrial case studies from companies such as Umicore, Boskalis, and VITO. - Industry Collaboration and Valorisation Skills
Gain essential skills to communicate with industry stakeholders, pitch your research effectively, and understand the basics of IP, contracts, and data management (with input from UGent TechTransfer, Gentrepreneur, etc.). - Entrepreneurship and Spin-offs
Hear firsthand from spin-off founders and industry experts (SpeXICAM, TESCAN XRE) about the opportunities and challenges of commercialising academic research.
This course will be of great value to those looking to increase the societal and industrial impact of their work in advanced imaging. Further information and registration details are found through the link below.
