50 scientists from nine countries joined the virtual kick-off event to create a durable structure for the EXCITE Network project

The EXCITE Network is moving forward. But before we allow you to access our European research infrastructure, we first must get our priorities straight. We did, during a two-day online kick-off event in June.
To assemble all partners safely and share the progress without delay these times ask for smart solutions. The EXCITE Network kick-off meeting on June 22nd and 23rd was precisely that. Organised as an online event, 50 academic participants from fifteen network partners joined our virtual meeting rooms to discuss the future of cooperation within the research infrastructure.
Getting acquainted
Since 24 facilities in nine countries will be working closely together within the EXCITE Network, it is essential to learn more about each other’s protocols, plans, ambitions, and work on technical preferences for peer reviews, open calls, and access.
Safely joining from kitchen tables and office desks all over Europe, the senior scientists of the network partners presented the contribution of their electron and X-ray facilities and discussed the needed involvement to enable, unite and strengthen the position of Earth-material research in the coming years.
During the meeting each partner presented their work packages, while the breaks allowed for informal discussions in the virtual coffee room. A good place to get acquainted and better understand the couleur locale of scientists and facilities that will drive the scientific progress with the EXCITE Network

First physical meet-up
The success and results of our virtual meeting in June make us look forward to our first physical meet-up that is programmed for the 22nd of January 2022 <waar? at the Earth Sciences Department in Utrecht>. Another great occasion to share views, meet like-minded scientists and value the new initiatives of the EXCITE Network.
